DH Construction & Improvements was founded in 2008 as DH Home Improvement, initially providing residential repair services within managed communities throughout Hampton Roads. Our first client, the Suffolk office of United Property Associates, entrusted us with a small fence project in Portsmouth—marking the beginning of a long-term professional relationship that continues today.
Early exposure to property management operations shaped the direction of our company. Working within organized portfolio environments revealed the value of structured scopes, defined budgets, compliance standards, and consistent workflow. Rather than pursuing scattered residential projects, we made a deliberate decision to focus on business-to-business partnerships—serving organizations responsible for maintaining housing assets and public programs.

As project volume and complexity increased, the company formally incorporated as DH Construction & Improvements, LLC and obtained a Class A General Contractor’s license to support larger renovation and capital improvement work.
Over the years, we have partnered with organizations including Atlantic Community Management, Lincoln Military Housing, the City of Virginia Beach, and Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority. In late 2022, we began participating in the City of Norfolk’s housing revitalization initiatives, completing more than 25 residential rehabilitation projects under the Renovate Norfolk and Strengthen the Neighborhoods programs.
Founder and President Daniel Harris retired after 21 years of service as a firefighter and medic for the City of Hampton. Built alongside a career in public service, the company was developed with discipline, accountability, and long-term stability at its core.
In 2026, DH Construction & Improvements was accepted into the Real Estate Developers (R.E.D.) Academy, marking the next phase of growth toward real estate development and expanded community impact.
Today, we remain focused on structured business-to-business construction partnerships—delivering renovation, capital improvement, roofing, rehabilitation, and property maintenance services that support long-term asset performance.
